Real good idea to have a bore gauge if shopping used. An original full choke 12 gauge a dime will not pass through the muzzle. Many older full guns have been opened up. The dime is a quick and dirty check. From the late 1920's until 1976, the Charles Daly brand name was owned by Sloan's Sporting Goods in New York and Connecticut. The gun may predate the mid-1930's. The presence of surface rust downgrades the condition and value. IMO, if its mechanically sound and you intend to keep it, you should consider having a good double gun 'smith refurbish it.

Charles Daley's are gas operated, thats about all I know about them. Stoeger autos are inertia similar to the Benelli but with a different twist. The Charles Daly line of shotguns are made by the Turkish firm Akkar. They are relatively nice handling guns but quality and longevity is another issue.
