Compared to land combat, there is no terrain or unit mixes for different roles. Civ multiplayer is interesting to a lot of players because they get to interact with other players. I like Seven Seas because it works for every kind of civ. For the exploration side of the game, I like maps like Continents and islands, Archipelago, Island Plates or Small Continents where you discover the map with naval units, following the coasts. I would say Archipelago or island plates. You need coastline for the navigation school and fetoria (which also needs a luxury or bonus resource). Large mediterranean, true start or not. It's by far the best map with the best geography. They made it extremely well, very large.
