Duramax ticking noise.
I have an 01 duramax that I recently replaced headgaskets in. Shortly after the headgasket job a ticking noise appeared. I think it sounds like a lifter ticking. Possibly a lifter loosened up a little after it has been running. A friend of mine disagrees. He says it is injectors ticking because they are bad. I have no other symptoms.
Ticking noise when accelerating. The new to me Duramax has a ticking noise going on as soon as you step on the gas. It is present from around 1000rpms to 2700 rpms. If I´m flooring it it goes away and it goes away as soon as I let of the pedal.. Just got a 2011 Chevy HD3500 Duramax. The Silverado book says it was filled with "Dexos" but the LGH and LML Duramax Diesel supplement book says to use API CJ-4 oil. There are no stickers under the hood near the dipstick/oil fill to indicate either.it doesnt sound normal to me. That isn't the normal duramax ticking sound. My 2021 l5p ticks but it's not in time with the rpm of the motor and it's not coming from the engine compartment like your video shows ... This is so common on ALL duramax engines-- GM circulated a TSB for the techs to advise them-- it is normal. Some call it a "Typewriter" noise. The injector ballance rates are very good, as the truck has 40k on it. I can't locate it, it's easily heard from both passenger and drivers side of truck. The valve lash seems to be a noise maker. I hear ticking in my engine, but I believe I'm pretty sensitive to it. A little bit less noisy with 15W-40 oil vs 5w-40.
