The only thing that can be said for certain is that your body is starting to prepare for labor. Cervical dilation isn't a good predictor of impending labor. There are women who walk around 3-4 cm dilated for weeks, and some who go from 1 to 5 cm in 1.5 hours during active labor (me, albeit with some help from pitocin).
